Head Start programs are built through grassroot efforts to apply for federal funding. Organizations applying must have a track record in the community proposed to be served and the community must have eligible families to enroll in Head Start. State, Tribal, County, City, and Township governments are eligible.
Public Housing Authorities and Indian Housing Authorities are eligible.
Independent School Districts as well as Public, Private, or State- funded Higher Education Institutions are eligible.
Nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status in addition to For-profit organizations and small businesses are eligible.
The Office of Head Start has allocated funding for New Mexico Head Start and Early Head Start grantees. Eligible Counties include: Ariba, Bernalillo, Curry, De Baca, Grant, Guadalupe, Harding, Quay, Roosevelt, Rio, and Taos.
